Bio

Barry is a builder, entrepreneur, businessman, author, and father. Over the past 40 years he has built and financed real-world projects that have created thousands of jobs and added tremendous value to the lives of millions and to our national economy. His work has helped fund a broad range of industries from aerospace and defense, construction materials, food and beverage, to entertainment, energy, and large-scale industrial construction. 

He is the founder and former CEO and Chairman of Green Plains Renewable Energy (now Green Plains, Inc.) GPRE:NASDAQ ~ one of the world’s largest ethanol producers. The ethanol produced by the company is used to oxygenate gasoline ~ making the air we breathe cleaner while lowering the cost of gasoline in both the United States and Canada. This is the exact opposite of what the current Administration is doing. It is destroying our clean air and water regulations and causing the price of oil and everything else to rise worldwide.

Barry was born in 1954 in Tooele, Utah, a small town west of Salt Lake City, the second child of four. His mother was a beautiful young Mormon girl. His father, a tall, intelligent Okie from Fairfax, Oklahoma, who worked as a computer programmer at Tooele Army Depot, who sadly suffered with severe alcoholism for most of his life… and when he drank he could become quite violent towards both Barry and his mother. His parents divorced when Barry was 12. 

Barry’s first job was delivering milk at the age of 9. At 11, he began galloping race horses, and absolutely loved it. Men were paying him to do something he would have done for free. By the age of 16, he had become one of the most successful jockeys in both Nevada and Idaho, where parimutuel betting was legal, winning many of the most prestigious races with the largest purses in both states.  However, his riding career came to an abrupt end when he grew 6.5 inches in one year. Not being able to ride, hurt. It was a difficult time for him, because he loved riding horses, and he was very good at it. It was exciting, it paid well, but life had different plans for Barry. 

After graduating from High School in 1972, he spent the summer in Europe where he lived with four different families in four different countries. What he discovered that summer was that the world is filled with wonderful people who are kind, loving, and generous. The following year, he went on a mission for the Mormon Church to Mexico City, where he absolutely fell in love with the Mexican people. He was amazed at their kindness and generosity. He loved their food, their music and their language. He had no idea there was a language on the planet that was as beautiful, as lyrical and poetic as Spanish. He marveled at how much more nuanced the language was. How he could express emotions with more intensity and color, yet at the same time, with more softness. Less jagged corners than English when describing such things as the feelings of love a human can experience. Their music would often make him cry simply from the richness and beauty of how much more deeply the human experience could be expressed. and still does to this day. And he loved the work of saving souls. Helping people out the holes they had often dug for themselves. Helping them overcome problems they were facing in their lives and introducing them to the healing that can come from being in a community of like minded people who are trying to find deeper meaning to their lives. It was in Mexico, where Barry discovered that the true joy in life is being in the service of others.

Upon returning from Mexico, he attended BYU, graduating in 1977 with a BA in Communications and for a while attended Law School in California, but quickly discovered that was not something he wanted to pursue as a career. 

Salt Lake City at that time was known as the Penny Stock Capital of the World and the Penny market was very active. There was a Regional Stock Exchange in Salt Lake that during the Roaring Twenties and the Uranium Boom of the 1950s often traded more shares than the New York Exchange, so there were some of the best stock minds in the world in Utah. Barry soon discovered he was very interested in the capital markets ~ in business and capital formation. He soon found himself working as a stock broker at Dean Witter. From there, he moved to Wilson Davis Securities just down the street. It was a smaller regional firm where there were two traders sitting right in front of him, making markets in hundreds of small stocks. And all around him were stock promoters who seemed to magically be able to make stocks go from a penny to $1 a share, or $10, $20, and even higher. But Barry was extremely curious and paid attention and it didn’t take long for him to figure out how they did it. And it wasn’t magic. It was manipulation. The same type of manipulation that caused the Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. The same kind that caused the Housing Crash in 2008 and 2009. The same kind that has made our housing markets unaffordable for millions along with everything else. 

Barry understands what Wall Street has done and how they do it. He learned how Wall Street manipulates financial markets as a young man. They cannot tell their lies to him because he knows what they are and that almost EVERYTHING WALL STREET DOES IS A SCAM. If you will support Barry’s efforts to become President, Barry promises you he will do everything he can to turn America around and reverse the damage these greedy billionaires who are currently trying to overthrow the government have caused. He will get them out of our government and reclaim the America we all love and want back to pass on to future generations.
